How to reset your skill tree
- Plan the new build first. Build it in the skill planner, which uses the real 1.0 tree, costs and connections. Copy the link so you can follow it in game.
- Collect enough Runes. The reset costs 1 Rune per skill point you have spent (see the table below).
- Go to a Flame Altar and choose the option to reset your skill tree. All spent points come back to you.
- Re-buy your plan point by point, starting from the nodes nearest your new main skills.
How much a respec costs
The Enshrouded Wiki's Flame Altar page says the altar "allows players to reset their skill tree at a cost of 1 Runes per spent skill point". So the cost grows with your character. With the point budgets our guides use for each stage of the game:
| If you reset at the end of | Points spent (fully explored) | Reset cost |
|---|---|---|
| Levels 1–15 | 65 points | 65 Runes |
| Levels 16–35 | 140 points | 140 Runes |
| Levels 36–50 | 212 points | 212 Runes |
If you haven't cleared every Shroud Root and Elixir Well, you have fewer points spent and the reset costs less. The planner shows your exact total when you set your level and explored biomes.
The free 1.0 reset
Every character that existed before 1.0 got one reset for free. The changelog's "public safety announcement" reads: "When playing for the first time in version 1.0.0.0 with an existing save game, the skill tree will be reset. Please make sure to spend the skill points again!" If you haven't re-spent those points yet, you don't need the altar: just spend them. Many skills changed cost, effect or position in 1.0, and the dagger skills moved to the Assassin group, so don't rebuy your old build node for node. What changed in the 1.0 skill tree lists the changes.
Plan your respec with a build preset
Every build guide has a preset for each stage of the game. Open the one for your level, adjust it, and copy the link before you go to the altar:
Respec tips
- Reset once, not often. The cost goes up with every point you own, so late-game resets are the most expensive.
- Pick one main archetype. The whole tree costs 675 points and you get 212 at most. See the skill tree guide and the area pages for the Mage, Warrior, Ranger and Core skills.
- Re-check your hotbar and weapon swaps after you re-buy your skills, so they match the new build.
- Coming back to the game after 1.0? Follow the 1.0 re-spec checklist.

Sources & how we checked this guide
Facts on this page were last checked on October 20, 2026 against Enshrouded 1.0.0.2 (Steam build 1269579). Patch facts come from Keen Games' official posts. Skill ranks, point costs and percentages were checked against the in-game skill text exported from the 1.0 game files (build 1267041) and cross-checked with two independent community sources. Item names were checked against the official Enshrouded Wiki. Read our methodology.
